Public facts stay accessible
A filing at Companies House is a public fact. It shouldn’t cost more to know because a bureau packaged it first. Public company pages, recent events and basic risk factors stay free for anyone, forever.
Approach
Creditbase exists to make UK commercial credit information open, explainable and useful. That mission only holds if the commercial model respects it. These are the rules we build by.
A filing at Companies House is a public fact. It shouldn’t cost more to know because a bureau packaged it first. Public company pages, recent events and basic risk factors stay free for anyone, forever.
Every alert links to its source. Every indicator exposes its reason codes. Every inferred relationship carries a confidence level and its evidence. If we can’t show the working, we don’t ship the number.
A company should be able to see what event moved its assessment, whether a relationship was observed or inferred, which model version was used, and how to challenge information that is wrong. Opaque bureau scores can’t offer that. We treat contestability as a feature, not a compliance burden.
What costs money is the operational layer: real-time monitoring at scale, point-in-time history, integrations, reliability, support, and licensed third-party data where it is genuinely unavoidable. That is what customers pay for.
Register data about directors and PSCs is still personal data, and being public does not remove data-protection obligations. We document our lawful basis, minimise what we hold, apply retention rules and run a correction process. Creditbase covers limited companies; it is not a consumer credit-reference service, and any future change to that scope would follow regulatory advice, not precede it.
