Position · County Court judgments

Public in principle. Priced in practice.

County Court judgments sit on a statutory public register, yet an official search still costs £6 to £10 per company. Here is how Creditbase handles that honestly.

The access gap

Registry Trust maintains the register of judgments on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, and official searches run through a paid service. The result is that judgment information, often decisive in a credit decision, is public in principle but priced out of routine, portfolio-wide use.

What Creditbase does

  • Licenses official judgment data for paid tiers where the value justifies the cost
  • Accepts customer-authorised CCJ results into your portfolio view
  • Never scrapes or reconstructs restricted registers
  • Always discloses whether judgment data is present in a profile

That last point matters most: the absence of judgment data in a profile is never presented as evidence that no judgment exists.

What we campaign for

Corporate judgment data should be available in bulk, machine-readable form, with privacy handled properly. We will make that case publicly, because open commercial-credit infrastructure is incomplete without it.
